How does a FireTub work?
We start with a few basics, a tub of water/ a fire and a fire coil.which when combined with the presence of a small fire actuates a natural process of circulation referred to as a ‘Thermal Siphon’.
This thermal siphon (circulation) will continue in perpetuity provided there is an active fire within the fire coil. As cool water from the tub is drawn in and up into the fire coil via the lower port (given heat rises it creates a vacuum like effect on the base port drawing water into the coil).
As the water column cycles upwards within the coil it is heated via convectional forces (heat transfer from fire to liquid) the water column continues to heat as it circulates upwards where the now hot water flows back in the tub via the top port.
This cycle continues until you reach your desired FireTub temperature.
Does my FireTub need power / pump?
Our FireTubs require no power or pump to heat / circulate the water making them completely Off Grid and able to be set-up and enjoyed virtually anywhere.
All that is required is wood, water & fire. Everything else is contained in the kit on arrival.
How does the water circulate without a pump?
The small fire built within the coil creates what’s known as a thermal siphon which circulates the water without the need for power or a mechanical pump.
As the water column within the coil circulates in and upwards, convectional forces heat the body of water contained within the coil… provided you have fire present within the coil you will maintain gradual circulation and heating of your FireTub.
To slow or stop the heating process, simply cease adding wood to the coil stack. As the fire degrades and dies down and out, so too will the heating and circulating flow.
How long does my FireTub take to heat up?
The Average Heat Time from 12C to 38C (with a cover)
• Lone Ranger | 4ft Tub 290L 60 min to 75 min
• Cozy Chatter | 5ft Tub 370L 1.5 to 2 hours
• Big Banter | 6ft Tub 450L 2.5 to 3 hours
These times can vary based on a few factors such as:
- How regularly you are restoking the fire
- Starting temperature of the water, which will vary on location, climate and season
Ways to decrease heating timeline:
- Using an Insulated Cover on your tub so that temperature is not lost to atmosphere during the heat up phase
How do I control the temperature?
The fire is the control lever to our FireTub… no fire; no circulation/ heating. Therefore once you are at or close to your desired temperature simply stop adding wood to the fire coil.As the fire degrades and dies down so too will the circulating flow. As this flow slows the mechanism of heat transfer (ie; convection) will also slow and stop resulting in no further temperature gain.
The recommended FireTub temperature is 36-40 degrees Celsius. Each FireTub comes with a temperature gauge so you can monitor the temperature during the heating phase.
Is it safe for kids?
It is up to the customer to use and oversee the use of the product safely whilst managing the hazards of fire and water. By all means, your kids can enjoy the outdoor FireTub experience but be responsible in monitoring this.
“WARNING!”
Children have drowned in portable swimming pools, baths and spas.
Ensure active adult supervision at all times.
Do not leave children unsupervised in or around the tub—keep them within arms’ reach at all times.
Empty water and store safely after each use.
Can I leave my FireTub full of water permanently?
Our FireTubs require regular draining as they do not have a filtration or sanitisation system like a spa or pool does. Any body of water that is not continuously circulating with a water treatment system will go rancid.
Typically, our customers will setup and have a soak on a Friday night, leave the tub covered but full on the Saturday and enjoy another FireTub soak that evening and either drain afterwards or the following morning.
We recommend draining your FireTub after no more than 48 hours. Failure to do so will result in the static water reacting with the galvanised coating.
Note: Be mindful of adding pool chemicals to your tub as some pool and water cleaners can negatively affect the galvanised coating inside the tub; if in doubt consult your local pool supplies retailer.
How do I empty the water?
Each FireTub has a ¾ inch (20mm) threaded plug located on the lower sidewall of the tub. To remove and drain, simply twist the plug anti-clockwise using a pair of needle nose pliers or the butt of a shifter to loosen and remove.
If you want to make things even easier, you can purchase a gated ball valve fitting from an irrigation supply house and put a standard hose fitting on the end of the fitting. This will allow you to attach a length of hose to the gated valve and direct the water away from your FireTub area.
Where is the drain plug located and can it be altered?
Drain plugs for all our tubs are located on the lower side wall and cannot be altered.
We have had several customers cut in and fit a conventional bath tub waste into the base of their tubs but this is not something we offer in-house.
Why FireTubs over other fire-powered hot-tubs in the market?
Our FireTubs are the definition of simplicity in a product- one that provides a totally unique and raw way to hot tub under the stars that is affordable, modular/ light weight and portable in design requiring no power, pump or any other mechanical means to operate. Here’s what sets us apart from others in the market:
• Affordable Outdoor Luxury
While there are other fire-powered hot tubs on the market with flashy finishes and expensive timber surrounds, they can cost up to and beyond 5x more than our FireTubs- and for the same experience! Our FireTub offers exactly what you need to enjoy a relaxing outdoor soak without the unnecessary extras or steep price tag.
• Low Maintenance, No Hassle
Unlike many wood-fired baths that require regular upkeep of timber surrounds, stainless steel parts, or fireboxes/ chimneys, our FireTubs are designed for minimal maintenance. Just fill it with water, build a fire, and let the natural heat transfer do the work. After use, simply drain the water and give it a quick wipe down with warm soapy water once every week or two. There’s no need for complex firebox/ chimney cleaning or oiling timber surrounds- just a durable stainless steel coil and a rustic galvanised steel tub that’s built to last.
• Simple, Lightweight Modular Design for Quick Setup Anywhere
Our FireTubs are built with portability in mind, featuring a lightweight, modular design that allows for easy assembly and disassembly with quick-connect fittings for the coil, hoses, and bulk heads. Whether you want to store it away after use or take it on outdoor adventures, our FireTubs can be set up in almost any location without the need for special bases or platforms. It’s the perfect blend of function and convenience, unlike bulkier alternatives that require a more complex permanent installation area.
• Rugged Durability for the Outdoors
While some wood-fired baths focus on aesthetics with a firebox/ chimney design with exterior timber panelling requiring regular upkeep, our FireTub is built for rugged outdoor use. Made from galvanized, rust-resistant steel, it’s designed to withstand harsh weather conditions without the need to worry about maintaining fancy finishes or treating delicate wood- our FireTubs are as durable as they are simple.
• True Immersion in Nature
Our FireTub provides a raw, minimalist experience, focusing on what truly matters: the soothing combination of fire and water. Free from unnecessary frills, you’ll enjoy the pure ambiance of an outdoor soak next to the crackling of an open outdoor fire. It’s about connecting with nature, away from the complexities of modern life. With no need for power, pumps, or high-tech systems, our FireTub is the ultimate outdoor relaxation experience.
• Affordable, Repeated Enjoyment
With a FireTub, you're investing in long-term enjoyment without the high maintenance costs or frequent upkeep associated with other wood-fired baths. Since it’s so simple to maintain, you can enjoy your FireTub as often as you like, with only minimal care. There’s no ongoing investment in cleaning, servicing, or preserving wood finishes- just relax and enjoy.

What is the best sized FireTub for me?
For the solo user;
• Our 4ft/ 1200mm ‘Lone Ranger’
For couples/ more than one user;
• 5ft/ 1500mm ‘Cozy Chatter’
• 6ft/ 1800mm ‘Big Banter’
Keep in mind that the 6ft sizing obviously requires more water to fill and thus requires more wood to heat. Be mindful of the additional water, wood and heating time required for this sizing.
Do you offer custom sizes on request?
We do not offer any manufacturing customization to the sizing or shape/ design
Coloured finish vs Galganised finish - which one?
Our coloured tubs are all 2Pac sprayed in a Satin finish. We recommend this option if you plan to frequently add Mineral and or Epsom Salts to your FireTub evenings or if you want a more flawless finish and look for your FireTub setup. The 2Pac finish does require you to be more deliberate in care though so not to scratch or chip the painted finish during use.
The galvanized finish is more rustic in aesthetic, each tub having minor marks, scuffs and imperfections from the machining, pressing and manufacturing process that occurs. The upside being that they are significantly cheaper in cost and don’t require the level of care that the 2Pac finished tubs require when using.
What is included in my FireTub kit?
Upon arrival you will receive a tub & box. The box contents include the coil, all quick connect fittings & attachments, heat resistant hose & hose clamps, MDF spanner, a temperature gauge & a small tube of silicone.
All that is required from your end:
To Assemble: a caulking gun & screwdriver
To Get Going: wood, water & fire
How do I put my FireTub together?
Prior to the arrival of your FireTub please have a read through our ‘Set-Up Guide’ that outlines how to put everything together. Once unboxed and in location, set up should only take 15-20 minutes for somebody with very minimal DIY ability.
No specialist skills or tradesman required, just a screwdriver and caulking gun.
How do I clean and maintain my FireTub and Coil Kit?
After several uses, you are going to find that your FireCoil is now black after repeated exposures to fire. There is no need to clean it off if you don’t want to - however, for those that want their coil back to its pristine raw steel colour you can do the following:
• Purchase from your local supermarket a tin of spray on ‘Easy-Off Oven & BBQ Cleaner (Heavy Duty)
• Apply a liberal amount of the cleaner to the coil & wait 30 minutes
• Firmly scrub the coil with a non-abrasive stiff brush and thoroughly rinse down your coil with a hose or pressure washer- the blackened coil should now be back to its steel colour.
For the tub we recommend purchasing one of our Insulated Hard Covers; this will prevent water and unwanted debris from building up in the tub base when not in use. Beyond a cover, a general wipe down with hot soapy water is all that is recommended as required
How do I care for my FireTub?
To care for your FireTub we recommend the following:
• Empty the water after use: you cannot leave water in your FireTub full time, doing so will cause the water to react with the galvanised finish. We recommend draining your FireTub after each use or after no more than 48 hours.
• Keep your tub covered and dry: When not in use, please be sure to keep your tub internal dry and covered to prevent water and debris building up in the tub base.
• Wipe out the tub internal: Subject to how regular you are using your FireTub, be sure to wipe out and clean the internal of the tub weekly/ fortnightly with a warm soapy solution.
Can I leave my FireTub outside?
Absolutely, our FireTubs are constructed using galvanised steel which is long lasting and rust resistant making them perfect for exterior settings where they are exposed to weather. We do suggest placing a lid or cover over your tub when not in use- saves you cleaning out leaf litter & debri prior to each soak.
* We recommend draining your FireTub after no more than 48 hours. Failure to do so will result in the static water reacting with the galvanised coating.
