Your Soak Tank must sit on a solid, level, compacted base. Before installation, remove all grass and vegetation and prepare a crushed or decomposed granite pad that extends at least 300 mm wider than the pool diameter.
A base depth of 75 mm is ideal. In very hard, well-draining ground, 40–50 mm may be sufficient.
Important notes:

•  Do not use sand or pea gravel — these can shift and cause uneven settling
•  The base must be fully compacted and level in all directions (no slope for drainage)
•  The surface should be firm enough that your foot sinks no more than 5 mm
  
  If you’re unsure the area is level, place a long straight edge (or timber) across the site and check with a spirit level.
  ⚠️ If the base is not level on install day, installation may proceed on the existing surface (not recommended) or be rescheduled for a fee, subject to availability.

Soak Tanks can be delivered and set up on the same day. No crane or heavy machinery is required. Depending on access, a two-person team can carry the tank into position, or it can be rolled upright where access is limited. Setup can be completed DIY or with assistance from our installation team.

Council requirements vary by state and local council. In many cases, stock tank pools are treated similarly to relocatable pools or spas, which may not require a building permit but must meet pool barrier and registration requirements to be compliant.
We recommend checking with your local council before installation to confirm approval, fencing and barrier rules, and any setback or placement guidelines. Ultimately, compliance is the homeowner’s responsibility, as requirements vary by location.
